Mahilet Girma, BSc
Mahilet Girma (she/her) holds a Bachelor of Science in Global Health with a specialization in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Her academic and professional background reflect a deep commitment to advancing health equity, strengthening community-based health systems, and promoting culturally grounded approaches to care.
She has collaborated with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), where she contributed to the design and implementation of a culturally responsive health promotion training program for community health workers serving rural populations in Venezuela. This work emphasized participatory methods and the integration of local knowledge to enhance health literacy and improve community health outcomes.
In addition, Mahilet served as a qualitative research coordinator at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA). In this role, she was responsible for fieldworker training, interview supervision, and staff mentorship—efforts aimed at improving data quality, access to care, and the overall performance of local health systems. Her field experience has strengthened her interest in global health implementation research and community engagement as key drivers of sustainable health interventions.
