Global Food & Health Systems Research
We work on global problems like antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic disease, food insecurity, and climate-related health risks — challenges that cross borders and sectors. By bringing together public health, law, environmental science, nutrition, and more, we uncover how systems interact, where risks emerge, and where change is possible.
Equitable Partnerships Driving Change
Systems are built on people, power, and policy. We collaborate globally with researchers, policymakers, and civil society through equitable partnerships that value both local knowledge and global evidence.
From Insight to Action
We don’t just study systems, we work to shift them. Using tools from systems and implementation science, we map feedback loops, model scenarios, and guide practical change in real-world contexts.
Building Capacity for Systems Approaches
Through training and mentorship, we help build a global network of researchers and practitioners skilled in systems methods and navigating systems change, One Health, AMR, and zoonoses, all aimed at transforming policy and practice.

About Us
We are an interdisciplinary research group driving the transformation of global food and health systems. Our mission is to build healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable futures by reshaping how societies grow, access, and govern food, and how health systems respond to today’s challenges.
Our work spans food security and systems, One Health and disease prevention and policy, and the design of resilient, inclusive healthcare systems. Drawing on multiple disciplines and the use of approaches from systems and implementation science, we work in close partnership with academia, governments, and civil society to turn evidence into action for a changing world.
Our team and collaborators cover a range of expertise including epidemiology, public health nutrition, population health, systems science, social science, law and environmental science. That means our research answers a range of policy-relevant questions and the evidence we generate is designed from the start to support policy solutions that advance population and planetary health.
Our approach is grounded in a commitment to global collaboration with principles of equitable partnership, the integration of policy relevant evidence from multiple academic disciplines, and incorporating essential perspectives and insights from stakeholders.
What we work on
Global Food
System Transition
We generate evidence to inform policy and governance approaches to support a global transition toward health, sustainable, and equitable food systems.
Disease Prevention Policy and Systems Change
To respond to complex global health challenges, we use systems methods and approaches to ask and answer questions that inform systems change.
Global Partners
and Allyship
We are identifying opportunities and strategies to promote equitable global health research partnerships and multi-sectoral evidence integration.
Health System Policy and Implementation
We support the development and implementation of policies that prioritize primary healthcare to ensure the rights of patients, communities, and providers.
Training
Systems Thinking Approaches and Methods in Practice
We provide training on bringing systems thinking approaches and methods in practice for
- population health
- disease prevention policy
- One Health
Canadian One Health Training Program for Emerging Zoonoses (Canopy)
Canopy is a connected community and training platform where highly competent personnel capable of excellence in health research on emerging zoonoses will be trained with a One Health approach.
The Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Network (CAN-AMR-Net)
CAN-AMR-Net focuses on addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) from a One Health approach and leverages diverse expertise to train the next generation of researchers, practitioners, and leaders in AMR and One Health to tackle the wicked problem of AMR.
